By now, I think we’ve all accepted the fact that we’ll probably never see all of the Marvel characters under the same big-screen umbrella. Not anytime soon, anyway. But after Disney’s success with The Avengers and the idea of a shared cinematic universe, we’re starting to see the other studios branch out with the respective properties that they do own.
FOX’s X-Men, for example, is culminating their 13 years or so of X-movies with the mega-epic Days of Future Past while simultaneously looking to expand Wolverine’s solo franchise into something beyond just being a prequel to the old movies. This is represented in the branding of the new movie as being simply “The Wolverine” in addition to moving the character to an all-new locale that’s aesthetically different from what came before.
