Lazarus #3, written by Greg Rucka, slows down the momentum picked up in the first two issues, focusing instead on the relationships between characters and the machinations of the Carlyle family. It's a sound narrative strategy, in theory. The debut issue hooks us with the tantalizing premise of a unique dystopia, while the second issue raises the stakes and continues the world-building. It's only natural that Rucka would focus on character development for the series' third installment, but the tactic only serves to highlight how one-dimensional some of the characters who are not named Forever Carlyle are (at least for now).
