Can a $99 Prepaid Phone Replace Your Smartphone? IGN All

Not everyone needs a giant 1080p screen to look at Facebook, nor does everyone need a 13-megapixel camera to share pictures on Instagram. Twitter doesn't demand a 2.3GHz processor, and LTE speeds are hardly required to keep up with your favorite sports team. And you definitely don't need to pay a monthly wireless bill to use a smartphone.


While plenty of us enjoy our high-powered, top of the line handsets of the future, the hardware and software features are often overkill for many. It's far too easy, though, to get caught up in the spec race that tempts us every year with a shiny new device, causing us to think that $200 on-contract, postpaid smartphones are the only way to go. But that's far from the truth, and Motorola's Moto G—which can be purchased for as low a $99—is a perfect example of why that particular mindset is flawed.
