Microsoft could potentially start serving political advertisements through Xbox Live, Skype, MSN and other Microsoft-branded platforms and services.
According to The Washington Post, the effort would find these ads targeted toward specific demographics as midterm elections come into full swing.
By combining Microsoft user IDs along with public data to form a profile of Xbox users, Microsoft could allow campaigns to customize their advertising for key demographics or even congressional districts.
If the advertising campaign brings its own email addresses, Microsoft can reportedly match that data with specific, individual users for hyper-targeted advertisements among its 25 million Xbox Live subscribers.
