A classic investigator may finally get his big screen spotlight.
Deadline reports that James Mangold (The Wolverine) is negotiating to direct a film adaptation of John D. MacDonald's crime novel The Deep Blue Good-by. Fox pursued this franchise for a long time as a star vehicle for Leonardo DiCaprio, though that's unlikely to happen now that DiCaprio reportedly has plenty of other projects underway. The Wolf of Wall Street star will, however, still produce the film -- with a script most recently drafted by crime novelist Dennis Lehane (Mystic River) -- through his Appian Way production company.
