Zeno Clash Dev to Release a Side-Scrolling Fighting Title IGN PS3

ACE Team, the independent developer behind Rock of Ages and Zeno Clash, announced a 2D action-adventure title called Abyss Odyssey today.


Abyss Odyssey will feature procedurally generated levels, meaning no two playthroughs will be exactly alike, according to publisher Atlus USA. ACE borrowed elements from roguelikes for level design, but the combat is reminiscent of fighting games –– with side-scrolling moves like dodge cancels –– and is centered around three distinct characters: Katrien, Ghost Monk and Pincoya.


In Abyss Odyssey's developer reveal trailer, ACE said that not only are the three playable characters different from one another, but each enemy is a "complex AI with a move set equivalent to your own." In essence, this system creates a more dynamic scenario with each enemy encounter. Players can also choose to capture the souls of enemies for use later in the game. ACE said this mechanic, along with the fighting maneuvers, give the game its distinct replay value.
