Avengers: EMH - "Deadliest Man Alive" Review IGN All

Hulk has been absent from the Earth's Mightiest Heroes cast for far too long. The writers probably weren't taking his inevitable popularity boost from the Avengers movie into account when they structured Season 2. The good news is that "The Deadliest Man Alive" finally brought Hulk back into the fold, even if the ending suggests that his role in the remainder of the series will be limited.


Of course, it wasn't just Hulk who returned, but his red-colored nemesis as well. This episode addressed the lingering mystery of Red Hulk's identity. Part of me hoped that the writers would shake things up and choose someone other than General Ross, but I'm not sure that would have served any purpose other than keeping comic readers on their toes. Red Hulk is a tricky character to work with in any medium. A lot of Hulk readers (myself included) weren't overly fond of the character in the first two years of his shelf life. He was an overly powerful bully without clearly defined motivations. That only changed after his identity was revealed and writers like Jeff Parker began to focus on the notion that Ross' obsession had finally gotten the better of him - that he had turned himself into the thing he hated most and could never go back.
