Big Bang Theory: "Holographic Excitation" Review IGN All

Like any holiday, Halloween is a source of revelry for some and sorrow for others. That was the case for all the Big Bang regulars this week as they started preparing for a big Halloween shindig at Stuart's comic shop. The problem with setting an episode in Stuart's shop for any great length of time is that I tend to get distracted by all the statues and action figures (that Predator Legendary Scale Bust on the main counter was pretty bitchin', by the way). Despite that, "The Holographic Excitation" managed to hold my interest throughout.


All four pairs received more or less equal focus this week, which is a bit of a change from how most of the episodes have been structured in Season 6. I quickly resigned myself to another week plagued by dull Leonard/Penny drama. Surprisingly, their scenes were among the most enjoyable. In particular, the scene where Leonard demonstrated his holographic device and explained the holographic principle was very nicely done. It's always refreshing to see the show go for longer than 10 seconds without the laugh track kicking in and allowing the characters to engage in genuinely intelligent conversation. And who knows, maybe Penny gaining a new appreciation for Leonard's career is a sign she's ready to grow up, settle down, and stop playing games with the poor guy's heart.
