How Mario Helped the Man Condemned to Death by Iran IGN All

One of the most heart-warming mental images offered up by gaming news this week, is of the novelist Sir Salman Rushdie, on the run from murderers, losing himself in the Mushroom Kingdom.



In the late 1980s, Rushdie was in hiding, protected by the British Government from a death-sentence issued by Iran’s leader, Ayatollah Khomeini. Rushdie’s novel, The Satanic Verses, had angered many Muslims and lead to Khomeini’s ‘fatwa’ for its “blasphemy”, which resulted in various assassination attempts.
