Last Resort: "Blue on Blue" Review IGN All

Note: Full spoilers for the episode follow.


While not as intense as the pilot (and really, we can’t expect it to be on a weekly basis), the second episode of Last Resort was solid, continuing the tension implicit in this scenario and adding new players to the mix.


On the downside, Grace’s actions in the first few scenes felt a bit erratic and unearned. Seeing her go so far as to ask Sam to relieve her, only to then quickly volunteer for his mission after he talked her out of stepping down, felt like a lot of beats to jump through with the character that may have been better served over multiple episodes.


The show has put these men in a terrible situation, where they may have to kill fellow Americans. And the weight of that was prevalent in the lead up to the confrontation with the soldiers who’d arrived on the island, with Marcus noting that it looked like the best case they could hope for was killing their fellow servicemen before they were killed. That being the case, the reveal that the invaders were actually Russians let the Colorado crew off the hook in a big way. It’s fine doing it once, but it’s a careful line the Last Resort writers will have to walk in future episodes to not always give them an out, while keeping the Americans vs. Americans idea part of the scenario.
