Unless you were living under a rock for most of the 90’s, you’ll have at least heard of Maxi’s SimCity franchise. As the series which set the benchmark for open-ended city-building, it was pretty tough to watch the series make an ill-judged misstep with 2007’s SimCity Societies: a game which tried to take the franchise in a new direction only to fall flat on its face. For a time it looked like this could spell curtains for the popular series, but then Maxis announced the simply-titled SimCity in March and hope bloomed once again. Better yet, our latest demo of the game suggests that this isn’t just a return to form for the SimCity franchise, but a much-needed refinement on a game series that was in danger of becoming bloated.
