I’m very relieved Connor survived. It was one thing to have one fake out new enemy die right away with Pastor Young, but Connor dying after just two episodes would have been a waste, after he’d been established as so cool and capable... I mean, just the way he booby-trapped his trailer alone! Not to mention his attack on Tyler, complete with removing werewolf venom from his gums, which was a great, “What the F***?” way to begin the episode. (Regarding "Werewolf Venom": To be a Vampire Dairies fan is to accept many a silly term).
I was scared they were straight up copying True Blood when Elena began to imagine Damon in place of Stefan, with a whole “if you drink a vampire’s blood, you will fantasize about them” thing - which, yes, would have contradicted previous events. Regardless, I’m glad that wasn’t the case, though this “Vampire Elena is more naturally drawn to Damon than human Elena…” feels like a stretch to let Elena off the hook, as it were, for so firmly choosing Stefan last season. In the meantime, it was amusing to have Lord of Brooding Stefan try to get Elena (or anyone) to have fun. But the fact that he realized he was not exactly the right guy for this and asked Caroline for help was endearing – as the Stefan/Caroline friendship in general is a nice aspect of this series that one couldn’t imagine when it began, and which Paul Wesley and Candice Accola do a very sweet job of portraying.
