Note: Full spoilers for the Warehouse 13 midseason finale follow.
Remember when Warehouse 13 was this lighthearted, irreverent series that was more about jokes than drama? Well, this ain't that kind of show anymore. The series has gradually been getting darker and more dramatic as it has aged, and the results are a mature series that can be quite entertaining when everything comes together as planned.
The episode started as we all knew it had to, with the rest of the team learning of Leena's unfortunate death. This finale for the first half of Season 4 was certainly the most emotional episode since Jinks died, but this story has some added angst since Artie is the culprit and these events went down in the Warehouse, their own backyard. All the actors did a good job of portraying the shock and sorrow of losing a friend so suddenly and horribly, but as a viewer I still have trouble feeling the full emotional effect of her loss because I'm not sure if she's really, really gone yet. That doubt was somewhat confirmed when Pete gets a visit from the ghost of Leena. I'm kind of torn on the decision to add this apparition. While this is a tad cheesy, it is as tastefully done as it could have been and it fits the story very well. We'll have to wait and see if this temporary reappearance is a portent of Leena's permanent return. After all, this series sure does love to undo tragic events.
