Savages Blu-ray Review IGN All

Oliver Stone lets what could have been a simple, effective crime thriller sprawl out of control and become a bit of an over-inflated mess with Savages, starring Taylor Kitsch (John Carter) and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass) as a "good-vibes" O.C. mega pot-business duo who seek payback against a Mexican cartel led by Salma Hayek after she kidnaps their shared surfer-girl, O, played by Blake Lively (Green Lantern).


Regardless of the fact that this story centers on uber-privileged, beautiful young white people, I kind of liked the first half hour and was intrigued by the notion that Ben (Taylor-Johnson) believed he could run a clean, green drug empire without sounding any alarms. And while I never found O to be nearly charismatic enough to warrant her being the voice-over narrator, the whole three-way love nest she, Ben and Chon (Kitsch) had created for themselves was something I hadn't ever seen portrayed before (with the intention of drawing in my emotional investment).
