I’m so happy that Saga #8 came out on the day we revealed our Best of 2012 awards. It kind of proves why it deserved our pick for Best New Series without me really having to explain it (but I did anyway).
This is an issue full of enormous emotional payoff but also interesting new threads. There’s a ton at play here, but Brian K. Vaughan paces this thing in expert fashion, and finally begins to peel back more layers of Marko and Alana’s relationship, opening the book on the first time they ever met. BKV delivers a fantastic play on the classic romantic comedy setup (it’s even referenced in Hazel’s narration), and delivers one laugh-out-loud moment after the next. In general, this is a pretty “happy” issue of this series, despite its cliffhanger only feeling like a harbinger of terrible things to come.
