Following a quick but enjoyable side-story featuring The Others, Aquaman resumes its focus on the titular hero and his new struggles as king of Atlantis. And what struggles they are. Any one of the running conflicts could justify a story arc on their own -- Mera's return to Xebel, the plot to liberate Orm from Belle Reve prison, the emergence of the self-proclaimed "first king" of Atlantis, and so forth. But the fact that each conflict is brushing up against the rest only makes "Death of a King" feel more tense and exciting.
