With Steppenwolf inciting war and Khan doing all he can to uncover the mystery of the fire pits while also dealing with his indignant superiors, Earth 2 ought to be rife with excitement and tension. Unfortunately, it plays out more like a history lesson. The kind you got in fifth grade that was reason to hold your head up with your arm for fear of falling asleep.
Most of this issue is Khan explaining the powers/origin of Captain Steel and the mystery of the fire pits, but it never goes beyond the explanation. There’s never a moment when the dialogue is engaging or the action excites you. It’s all very bland, and that’s probably because no one actually talks like that. Even Captain Steel proves to be as boring as mud when he blatantly explains to a man he just met that he doesn’t really care about anything. Not exactly the most thrilling character.
