Lovelace charts how a conservative girl from a strictly religious family became Linda Lovelace (Amanda Seyfried), the star of the most famous porn film of all time, Deep Throat. Seeking escape from her overbearing mother (an unrecognizable Sharon Stone) and her loving, but passive father (Robert Patrick), Linda is promised freedom by her new boyfriend Chuck Traynor (Peter Sarsgaard).
Chuck and Linda run off together, but he's got a lot of shady ties and ultimately exploits Linda's good looks and, how to put it, astounding capacity for oral sex by introducing her to his mobbed-up porn filmmaker acquaintances (Bobby Cannavale and Hank Azaria). Linda's girl next door looks and, ahem, oral gifts make her and her debut film Deep Throat an overnight sensation. Suddenly, she's a star even in the mainstream.
