The quite brilliant Filth is unleashed in UK cinemas this week. An adaptation of the Irvine Welsh novel of the same name, the film stars James McAvoy as Bruce Robertson, a corrupt, racist, homophobic, alcoholic, junkie cop. Dixon of Dock Green he ain’t.
Written and directed by Jon S. Baird, the film revolves around Robertson’s life unravelling as he endeavours to win a promotion, and is hilarious, uncompromising, and hugely entertaining.
We spoke to McAvoy about taking on such a potentially controversial role, working alongside the film’s amazing cast, and pleasuring himself on-camera.
