The premiere episode of Super Fun Night that ABC is airing Wednesday night is not the pilot episode. That pilot, sent out to press early this summer, was an incredibly poor one, filled with bad jokes and lazy plotlines. ABC have shelved that episode, making the second episode now the first to air and the result is… well, not that much better.
It’s a shame too, because it’s really hard not to want Super Fun Night to be good. I think Rebel Wilson (Bridesmaids, Pitch Perfect) is funny. I’m a big fan of Conan O’Brien, who is one of the executive producers. And costar Liza Lapira (Dollhouse, Traffic Light, Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23) is a really likable presence in everything I've seen her in. And yet the show they’ve collaborated on feels so dull and lifeless.
