Pretty Deadly #2 Review IGN All

prettydeadly02-cover Pretty Deadly, by writer Kelly Sue DeConnick and artist Emma Rios, is -- inarguably -- one of the most ambitious and visually stunning books to hit shelves this month. Unfortunately, its that very same ambition that tangles up the story, resulting in a book that's as stylistically brilliant as it is narratively befuddling.


The book opens with a standard "Previously seen on..." style recap of the first issue's happenings, but its wildly useless. Several names are tossed out in quick succession, with little context with which to ground them. One wonders why the effort to add it was even deemed necessary, as it only serves to highlight the book's greatest weakness: its convoluted mixture of myth-making and plot.
