As weird as it seems that we’re getting a Mad Max movie without Mel Gibson playing the title character, it would seem that is the price we must pay. And another Mad Max film is something we very, very much want.
So while it remains to be seen whether or not a Gibson-less return of the Road Warrior will be worth the very long wait -- and you couldn’t do much better than having Tom Hardy as his replacement, which will be the case when Mad Max: Fury Road hits in the summer of 2015 -- it sounds as though the rumor floating around that the former Max Rockatansky might make a cameo in the new film is only wishful thinking.
The Sydney Morning Herald (via The Playlist) spoke to director George Miller, who said that talk of a Gibson cameo was off base. “It would have been nice somehow but, no, it's not true,'' the director said.
