The current selection of game demos on Xbox One is rather paltry, but that won't necessarily be the case moving forward. Microsoft's Larry Hyrb has explained the reason for the current lack of demos and indicated more of them will be made available on the platform in the future.
In response to a question on his blog about the reason for there being so few demos on One, Hyrb, who is better known as Major Nelson, responded, "It is (and always has been) up to game developers to do demos for their own games. They'll be more demos for Xbox One as the platform goes forward."
All Xbox Live Arcade games were required to offer some kind of trial or demo version on Xbox 360. With there no longer being any distinction between Xbox Live Arcade games and retail games on One -- everything now is simply a game without any additional classifications -- many developers and publishers have opted not to offer demos.
