From trailer to Blu-ray packaging material, The Miller Brothers’ Sweetwater presents itself as an action-heavy gritty revenge thriller. But if you pop the disc in expecting an hour and a half of January Jones shooting up the Old West, you’ll be disappointed. What Sweetwater does provide, however, is a leisurely paced tale of a former prostitute trying to live her new life.
Jones plays Sarah Ramirez, wife to Miguel (Eduardo Noriega), as the couple eke out survival on a small farm in 19th century New Mexico. Their closest neighbor is a religious leader named Prophet Josiah (Jason Isaacs), a sinister zealot more akin to a cult leader than a man of the cloth. Meanwhile, the idiosyncratic Sheriff Jackson (Ed Harris) follows a trail of bodies that lead back to Josiah. Eventually, all paths collide.
