Marc Forster has been talking about the hastily re-shot ending of World War Z, stating that he decided to go for a more low-key finale because of fears that viewers would be suffering from “battle fatigue.”
Speaking to Empire, Forster explained that the film’s final third was re-written as the movie was being shot, a huge concluding battle in Moscow replaced with something more intimate and understated in Wales.
“The reason I felt it wouldn’t work is that by that time
you have a certain battle fatigue after Israel” he says, referring to one of the film’s most action-packed sequences. “After Israel and the plane crash, trying to trump that and make it even bigger wasn’t working in our favour.
