Any Batman fan worth their salt will know that the Caped Crusader made his debut in the pages of Detective Comics #27 way back in 1939. As it happens, the current volume of Detective Comics is also reaching issue #27 this week. DC is celebrating by going all-out with a 96-page special issue. Detective Comics #27 features stories from a variety of creative teams and covering many eras in Batman's storied career.
One of these creative teams is writer Brad Meltzer and artist Bryan Hitch. Meltzer left his mark on the DCU already thanks to stories like Identity Crisis and his Justice League of America run, and now he's returning to tell a revamped and modernized version of the very first Batman story, "The Case of the Chemical Syndicate."
