There’s a scene near the start of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 that’s intended to highlight how completely the once virtuous Gabriel Belmont has embraced his transformation into Dracula, lord of darkness. After an empowering opening sequence that sees the disdainful vampiric lord decimate an army of pious knights, the action fast-forwards several hundred years to reveal a modern-day setting and a dusty crypt. Here, we are introduced to Dracula as a sad, pathetic figure that has become weak and emaciated from his long hibernation.
Soon after, you find yourself locked in a room with a young family and no choice but to feed. Dispatching the father (apparently vampires don’t go in for man-blood) you stumble towards the mother and daughter and - in first-person perspective for added effect - feast on the hapless young woman while her little girl whimpers in the corner. Having drained the corpse you then reach out toward the child; the camera cuts away and the little girl screams.
