Live-action/CGI hybrid movies aren't letting '80s animated series stay dead, as we've seen with Alvin and the Chipmunks and the Smurfs. Now, Disney has picked up a pitch from commercials director Robert Rugan for a film adaptation of Chip 'n Dale.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be produced by Mandeville Films/TV, which is responsible for The Muppets and the upcoming Muppets Most Wanted.
The film will reportedly be inspired by the 1989 animated incarnation of the characters, Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers. The show took the decades-old characters and launched them into a detective agency that specialized in clients from the animal kingdom. The show ran for three years on The Disney Channel, along with the popular Duck Tales and its spin-off Darkwing Duck. Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers was recently revived as a comic book series from BOOM Studios.
