With the Chicago-based WGN rebranding themselves as a larger-scale cable channel, WGN America, with original scripted material, they announced a big new project today - Ten Commandments.
No, this isn't a remake of the film, telling the biblical story. Rather this is a 10-part miniseries, from The Weinstein Company, which will air over 10 nights. A different director will take on a single Commandment in each episode, with their own modern interpretation. WGN announced five of the participating filmmakers and it's a notable group: Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting), Lee Daniels (Precious, The Butler), Jim Sheridan In the Name of the Father), Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm Street, Scream) and Michael Cera. Bruce Cohen (American Beauty, Silver Linings Playbook) and Bob Weinstein will produce.
