Seth MacFarlane was at the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour today to promote Cosmos, the science documentary series he’s producing for FOX. But, not shockingly, he was also asked about recent events on Family Guy and the decision to kill and then quickly resurrect Brian.
Earlier in the day, FOX president Kevin Reilly said the story happened because McFarlane wanted "to shake things up." MacFarlane echoed that, saying that after 12 seasons, “We were just trying to surprise people.”
As for viewers being genuinely upset and angry over Brian’s death when it occurred, MacFarlane remarked, “We were all very surprised -- in a good way -- that people still cared about that character to be that angry. It didn't occur to us. We thought it would maybe create a little bit of a stir, but the rage was not something we counted on."
