January is often a dead zone for fantastic video game and entertainment releases. But not this year! 2014 got off to a fantastic start with Double Fine's thoughtful adventure game Broken Age, Messhof's frantic non-traditional fighting game Nidhogg, and plenty of other superlative gaming experiences. Comics also didn't miss a beat with hits like Deadly Class and Uncanny Avengers setting a high bar. TV shows like True Detective also debuted this year.
