Lost Animated LOTR Footage Found IGN All

If you were born in the last two and a half decades, there's a good chance Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings is the only film adaptation of the fantasy series you've ever seen. You may not be aware that back in 1978 director Ralph Bakshi (Fritz the Cat) released an animated feature based on J.R.R. Tolkien's work. Now, 36 years later, Bakshi's son has dug up lost footage that never made it into the film.


According to BoingBoing, Eddie Bakshi scanned cel artwork from the elder Bakshi's archives and timed them to the animation's original exposure sheets before releasing two deleted scenes on Ralph Bakshi's official Facebook page. The clips are taken from a version of Gandalf's recollection of the battle with the Balrog that was ultimately scrapped from the final product.
