Trials Fusion will not include head-to-head online multiplayer when it releases on April 16. Instead, "a completely new type of online multiplayer mode" will be added in as a free update soon afterwards. IGN spoke with Trials Fusion creative director Antii Ilvessuo about this decision, as well as developer RedLynx's other big plans for the imminent new version of the physics-based racing/puzzle game.
"Local multiplayer will be part of Trials Fusion at launch, as we know our fans love that game mode: four buddies on one couch," Ilvessuo told IGN. "However, synchronous online multiplayer did not work as we would have hoped. We know by reviewing the metrics from Trials Evolution that the vast majority of players tried the mode, didn’t return to it and decided to focus their time on other parts of Trials. We even further polished that mode for the PC version, Trials Evolution: Gold Edition, but players still did not engage that feature and online multiplayer was less popular among all players.
