Your enjoyment of Afflicted will directly correspond to your tolerance for the found footage technique. Personally, I think found footage is an overused fad. It has its place and it can be employed to remarkable effect.
The Blair Witch Project was a phenomenal, groundbreaking film. But too often these days found footage is a cheap gimmick, and 99% of all offenders are horror movies. It often yields films that obsess over elaborate camera stunts and ever more ludicrous explanations for why characters continue to roll tape while in mortal danger.
Audiences are expected not to balk when dropped cameras magically land in such a way that key groups of people remain in perfect frame and focus. Clever though such tricks may be, like any production element that calls too much attention to itself, they often serve only to remind audiences that they're being manipulated.
