The Walking Dead is in all likelihood a series that we’ll be talking and writing about for years to come, if for no other reason than it truly has become a most unexpected phenomenon. We’ve mentioned this previously, but generally speaking, the kinds of series that are consumed en masse, that generate the sort of ratings that The Walking Dead does, are what we would deem to be “comfort television” - meaning, easy to watch.
It’s the sit-coms that you can have on in the background or just laugh with for 22-minutes to help you unwind after a long day, or the procedurals that you can skip for weeks, months, or even years at a time and then jump right back into. Now, that’s not always the case, and there’s certainly been a rise in successful serialized programming on network TV.
