Klei Entertainment has announced that Don't Starve will receive a multiplayer expansion called Don't Starve Together.
The announcement describes it as a 2-4 player mode that allows friends or strangers to put their survival skills to the test together, in public or private matches. Any current owners of Don't Starve on Steam or standalone will receive the expansion for free, but the price of the base game will go up to $20 from its original $15 when the multiplayer alpha becomes available. The studio is targeting a release in late summer.
The number of players and release target is subject to change, and Klei notes that it's looking for feedback from fans. The announcement doesn't rule out the possibility of going to other platforms like PlayStation 4, but says it's too early to tell. It also makes a point of stating that single-player experience won't be impacted, so if you're happy with Don't Starve as it is, nothing will change for you.
