Smartwatches are the rage right now, even if consumer acceptance of the devices is still a bit hazy. Back in April, rumors of a Microsoft smartwatch began circulating, but a new report from Forbes claims the device could show up as early as this summer. And unlike some of Microsoft's competitors, this smartwatch is looking for cross-platform appeal.
Clearly, it would seem Microsoft would want its rumored smartwatch to require a Windows Phone. But based on that product line's relatively lackluster market share--reportedly only at an expected 3.5 percent by the end of this year--compatibility with Android and iOS smartphones just makes sense.
