Right away, Original Sin is a breath of fresh air as far as Marvel's event comics go. For one thing, it features Jason Aaron steering the ship in his first solo, line-wide event storyline. For another, it's unusually free-standing and isolated in the sense that there's been very little direct build-up. Original Sin #1 is entirely accessible and new reader-friendly in a way these books usually struggle and fail to achieve. However fatigued you might be with these projects, at least Original Sin brings something new to the table.
As is usually the case with event comics in this spoiler-heavy climate, Original Sin #1 won't offer many surprises for anyone who has been following the marketing. The Watcher is murdered in his moon base by a person or persons unknown. His all-seeing eyes are stolen, along with a wealth of technology and weapons. The Avengers are left with two prevailing questions - who killed the Watcher, and what dark developments will come as a result of these thefts?
