DC just kicked off their second weekly comic of 2014 this past week. The New 52: Futures End #0 showed us a hellish DC Universe 35 years in the future, where Brother Eye reigns supreme and a dwindling band of heroes fight to overthrow it and its cybernetic soldiers. That issue culminated with Batman Beyond traveling to the past to stop Brother Eye before it was created, only to appear five years too late. With Futures End #1, the series now begins a yearlong saga that unites Terry McGinnis with Firestorm, Mister Terrific, Frankenstein, Grifter, and Stormwatch to explore the New 52 as it exists five years into the future.
We recently had a chance to interview two of the series' writers, Keith Giffen and Dan Jurgens. They discussed the challenges of writing a weekly comic, how their experiences compare to past weekly projects at DC, and the process of re-imagining the DCU for this near-future setting.
