Sleepaway Camp Blu-ray Review IGN All

If people are still watching your movie 31 years later, then you’ve done something right and nothing proves that more than the incredibly bizarre and fascinating Sleepaway Camp, which got its first-ever Blu-ray release last week. On one hand, it’s a time capsule of a specific era, the early 1980s, and an example of the giant slasher movie boom of that time. It also happens to be a very cheesy movie with some notably goofy, unintentionally comedic moments. And, most importantly, it happens to be absolutely crazy, with several “Wait, did that just happen?” moments, culminating in an all-time classic twist ending that still gets the right “WHAT?!” response.


A quick refresher course, or introduction for those not familiar: Sleepaway Camp follows Angela (Felissa Rose), a young teenage girl who was the only survivor of a tragic accident that killed her father and brother. Awkward, shy and not one to say much, Angela’s first experience at sleepaway camp, with her cousin, Ricky (Jonathan Tiersten), is filled with a lot of bullying, a potential first romance and, you know, a bunch of murders. Considering these murders usually happen to people who mocked or threatened Angela, the question becomes, is the killer Angela herself? The ever-protective Ricky? Or someone else?
