Unearthed Atari Games Will be Curated at Smithsonian and Various Museums IGN All

Five hundred of the 1,300 Atari games dug up from a New Mexico landfill in April will be curated at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC and local N.M. museums, while the rest will be sold, the Alamogordo City Commission said.


"We don't have a definite plan as to how we'll sell the remainder of the games yet," Alamogordo mayor Susie Galea told IGN. "But we know we'll be giving some of them to the Smithsonian, as well as museums


. The commission has a few ideas moving forward, but there's nothing definite yet."


Aside from the 500 copies being prepared for curation, 100 of the games will be given to documentary film companies, leaving the Alamogordo commission 700 to sell. Galea said the city will meet June 10 to decide how to sell the remaining cartridges, and that it will consider the possibility of hosting an auction open to the general public.
