Apple Reveals Latest Tool for Thwarting iOS Thieves IGN All

A shiny new piece of mobile tech is always fun, but if you're buying an iPhone or iPad secondhand it pays to make sure you can even use the thing. Over a year ago, Apple added an Activation Lock security function to its iCloud suite. The feature keeps creeps out of your phone by locking everything down, but it could also lead to a bricked device if you're unfortunate enough to buy an iPhone from a thief.


Thankfully, Apple has added a new means to check the status of Activation Lock on any iOS device via iCloud. Just log onto the iCloud site, enter the IMEI or serial number, and Apple will let you know if the device is currently locked. As long as the iPhone or iPad is unlocked, you can buy the secondhand device without worry.
