Amazon still has faith in the future of the Fire phone, despite the device’s slow sales.
In an interview with Fortune, Amazon senior vice president of devices David Limp said that executives at Amazon are going forward with plans to develop new phones, and that the company faults the Fire’s initial price tag for its failure.
“We didn’t get the price right,” said Limp. “I think people come to expect a great value, and we sort of mismatched expectations.”
Since the Fire’s release back in July, Amazon has dropped the price of the phone from $200 to 99 cents with a two-year AT&T contract. Limp said the discount has already helped to improve sales, but just last week it was revealed that the company took a $170 million hit due to the phone, and still has $83 million worth of unsold devices.
