Ubisoft revived the Far Cry franchise with its third numbered entry in 2012, and has maintained momentum since.
The company has sold "around 10 million copies" of Far Cry 3, Ubisoft said during an earnings call today. The open-world shooter, set on a jungle island inhabited by bandits and native tribes alike, released during the same holiday season as Halo 4 and Assassin's Creed III. It reimagined the formula of its numbered predecessor, and brought the series back into the limelight –– in three weeks, Far Cry 4 marks the franchise's first foray onto the new generation of consoles.
