Google Play Now Available on Roku Devices IGN All

Roku owners now have access to movies and television through Google Play's streaming application.


Similar to other services such as Netflix and Hulu, Google Play allows viewers in the US, UK, Ireland, and Canada to rent, purchase, and watch movies and television directly through their dedicated app.


Previously, Google Play movies and TV access was reserved only for users of Android and Chromecast devices, as well as an iOS application that hosted previous purchases, but didn't allow for on-demand viewing.


The movement to bring Google Play to Roku devices is likely one that seeks to further legitimize Google as a viable competitor in the streaming market, especially when integrated into a device streaming the likes of HBO Go, Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, Amazon Instant Video, and all other major streaming services. Currently, the app is available on all devices introduced after June 2011.
