A Japanese company has created a quarter-scale machine that transforms from a robot to a car.
The project, "J-deite quarter," was created by a collaboration between Brave Robotics, Asratec, and Takara Tomy, the company behind the original Transformers toys. The robot is 4.3ft (1.3 meters) tall and weighs in at 77lbs (35 kg).
When walking on two legs, it moves at a speed of 0.62mph (1kmh), but when in car gorm it can reach 6.2mph (10 kmh). It's powered by V-Sido software, developed by creator Wataru Yoshizaki.
The Transformers aren't stopping with J-deite quarter. Larger versions are scheduled to follow, with the half-scale model, 8.2ft (2.5 meters) tall, due in 2016. Eventually, the full-scale final robot will be completed by 2020, standing at 16.4ft (5 meters) high.
