Note: Full spoilers for the episode follow.
The dreaded spell of Shattered Sight was cast in the last episode of Once Upon a Time and is inching its way towards Storybrooke. Two things. One: it was smart of the creative forces of Once to establish the rule in this universe that curses don't instantly hit everywhere at the same time. The fact that they creep in via menacing clouds gives them time to create all sorts of Curse Anticipation Drama (TM) for better or worse.
Two: the curse is bringing the worst and as we've heard repeatedly (emphasis on repeatedly), it will cause the citizens of Storybrooke to tear each other apart. Knowing what's coming gets them all wound up so much so that the curse practically begins working before it sweeps in and rains jagged mirror bits on everyone -- which was a snazzy effect. Well played writers for coming up with a curse that wreaks havoc before it's even cast.
