Disorder: Can Depression Make for a Good Video Game? IGN All

I've struggled with depression for most of my adult life. It's not a daily problem like it once was, but I remember how lost I was during rough stretches, and how I could never adequately explain how I felt to others. That's why I'm thankful when games such as Disorder surface. This puzzle platformer sheds light on the darkness that consumes so many, helping to make real a disease so difficult to put into words. It's not just an exploration of one's darker thoughts, though. Not only does Disorder try to capture the depressive mind, but simultaneously welcomes in those who want nothing more than to enjoy themselves in a fantastical world.


The unnamed protagonist of Disorder has been haunted by terrible events. Misery and pain have defined his waking hours, causing his brain to filter his view through a lens of sadness. You control him in a two-dimensional world so different from reality that it could only exist within someone's broken mind. Crumbling buildings teetering over a bottomless void house shadowed outlines of the people who caused him harm. There is no safety here, no place to take respite from the growing storm.
