Let me be candid: Shovel Knight is my favorite game of 2014. As a gamer with an old-school heart, Shovel Knight speaks to me on a level that I think only those who grew up with an NES controller fused to their hands can truly appreciate. As I stated in my review earlier this year, Shovel Knight expertly blends the who's-who of nostalgic classics -- from Duck Tales and Mega Man to Ninja Gaiden and Zelda II -- into one extraordinary, pixelated package. In short, it's a must-play.
Shovel Knight originally launched as a game only available on three platforms: Wii U, 3DS, and PC. In early 2015, that's about to change, as Shovel Knight is officially coming to PS4, PS3, and Vita in early 2015. I went hands-on with both the Vita and PS4 iterations today at PlayStation Experience, and I'm pleased to report that these ports appear to be faithful, which is all fans of the fledgling franchise can ask for.
