Like all personal lists, defining my top ten movies gave me a great deal of angst, which is stupid, considering it’s just a transient thing on the internet and doesn’t actually define me in any way. With that said, here’s my sweat-soaked list of personal favourite movies ever, on this particular day during this particular time in my life, for your (hopefully, oh god, hopefully) reading pleasure.
I’m not sure I can think of a more endearing onscreen character than Chief Marge Gunderson, the no-nonsense - and heavily pregnant - cop in the Coen Bros.’ 1996 deeply black comedy, Fargo. Played pitch-perfectly by Frances McDormand, Gunderson is the highlight in a brilliant ensemble that includes Steve Buscemi, Peter Stormare and William H. Macy. Typically weird and philosophical, I think Fargo is also the most accessible, fun and funny of the Coen’s films.
